Hot Glue2 seaming for direct glue or double-stick carpet installations

This article illustrates a technique to join carpet edges together using a hot glue gun and a special applicator tip when you get to the edge of the wall. This article is useful to you if you are installing broadloom carpet and you are using direct glue down or double-stick installation method. Typically this method is used for commercial carpet installations.

When withdrawing the applicator tip from the carpet seam, the following sequence of pictures provide a helpful illustration of withdrawing the applicator from the carpet seam whilst avoiding the risk of dripping thermal-plastic adhesive onto the face of the carpet.

1. This is an example of what one would have when coming to the edge of the carpet against the wall. There is no wall in the picture but we are simulating what would happen. The person would simply stop at this point and stop depressing the trigger on the glue gun.

2. Tilt the glue gun forward to an upright position at a 90 degree angle.

3. Continue to rotate the gun to a 45 degree angle to the carpet. Once you have the gun in this position, as shown in the picture, pull the gun vertically up to withdraw the tip from the seam.

4. Insert the applicator tip at the end of the seam by the wall, and continue to apply the Hot Glue2 thermal-plastic adhesive to finish the remaining seam.

5. This picture shows where you would stop.

6. As previously shown, tilt the gun forward to a 45 degree angle to the carpet and vertically extract the applicator from the seam. Also be carefull to stop pulling the trigger on the glue gun.

7. This is the last illustration just after lifting the applicator tip out of the seam.
